James Monroe Adams
James Monroe "Roe" Adams was born in 1928 in Mississippi and died on November 28, 1868. James served in the Civil War, Company C, 40th Mississippi Infantry, under Captain Cooper, R.B. Campbell, and Colonel Colbert. He was taken prisoner at Vicksburg in 1863. He was paroled due to illness and never fully recovered. He was buried in Jerusalem Cemetery in Leake County Mississippi.
For a good while we thought that James Monroe Adams' middle initial was "R" as did many people. Thankfully a distant relative who happened to find our website confirmed that his middle name was Monroe. He was called "Roe" so that is probably why to this day many think his middle initial is "R."
